There are in fact several important exceptions to the
"you must get off your bike and repair it" rule.
The most important, and often used exception is
when one is riding slow.
1) Often it is best to complain about "how hard I am working and still can not keep up." Then, once finished, pretend to discover said under inflated tire and announce it publicly. Not only will you be the recipient of much sympathy, but you may even find someone around to repair it for you.
2) Another important exception is when a coffee shop stop in imminent, and you know you are going to want to stay longer than the others. In this case, it is best to let the other group riders mount their bikes . . . only to have you "discover" the under inflated tire. This will buy you 7 - 10 additional minutes of coffee shop time.
