Superior Vistas

The usual suspects
No idea what Russ, Wayne or Dave are looking at . . .
(Due to the ongoing Hatfield & McCoy fued, Joe is not pictured)
Must of been Penny
How many colors can a gal wear?
apparently . . . a lot . . .
"Can we please just get going?"
"Ladies, now pay attention . . . "
Momentarily putting the fued aside . . .
Joe reappears
(no idea who the woman is)
Then the rain came . . . darkening the camera
20 more miles to go
Like a wet rat . . .

And I Thought We Had A Long Day In The Saddle........

The Duluth area was well represented at the Superior Vistas Century in Washburn, WI on Saturday, including Rich and Lauren, Sherry, Rick and Penny, Joe, Wayne, me (Russ) and a couple of Daves. It was my first time at this event and if you set the almost day long rain aside, I can't say enough good things about it. The route includes FS 236 - perhaps one of the nicest stretches of road that I ever been on. Plenty of food at the rest stops and finish, on the spot replacement of a shredded tire, and even law enforcement managing the intersections! I'm in for next year.

I spent most of the day in the company of Wayne, Joe, and Dave and the smooth pace line work helped us get it done in a little over 5 hours. But that pales in comparison to the efforts recorded by Jim (7:31) and Tim (7:48) at the Lutsen 99er event. Shanie's 3:15 in the 39er isn't too shabby either!

Maybe all those early morning miles are paying off?

Like the Hatfield's and McCoy's!

It begins so innocently . . .
"Nice hat Joe . . ."
. . . says a fellow rider
Soon, the words are pouring forth
"I know your weakness' . . .
coffee and stopping to pee . . .

Really, It's just a little washout . . .

Hmmmm . . .
"Maybe they aren't kidding?"

"Yeah, I suppose this might be a problem . . ."
"Let me think . . ."

"No problem . . . "

Well Done Peter! (and thanks to Joe)

A lovely morning at the start; after the prerequisite tire changing exercise Joe, Peter, and I made our way up Jean Duluth, out Normanna, then Pequaywan Lakes to Fox Farm (where Joe had to bail). Peter had mounted a set of cross tires on the Roubaix and despite yesterday's rain, the gravel was in great shape.

Joe - thanks for the nice pace line work on the way out and the use of your pump.....
Peter - thanks for being willing to get off the pavement!

4 Horsemen

The good thing about riding with these 4 guys
It was kinda like this for me
I could just sit back and relax
Until of course
the inevitable puncture
Somehow, we made it to the gravel
Where we quickly realized
Sharp dress runs in the family!

One Fine Day ( or: the Calm Before the Storm)

Just Pics (almost)!
Mr Whistle
It's always great to have the ladies out
Let's face it boys . . . they are way nicer to look at . . .
It's always good to see Wayne
as for Tim . . .
The astute reader will recall "All about Tim!"
As the temperatures rise, Wayne needs to discard some clothes
While on the subject of clothes . . .
Would someone please explain to me . . .
How this Raleigh jersey goes with the Nature Valley shorts?
This is some kit choice!
(until we realize the Raleigh jersey is a team jersey from the Coor's Classic . . . worn by Deb during the race . . .
She gets a fashion bye . . .)
What's that?
Allen is so strong, he beats us even while injured
This was the calm before the storm . . .
From this point forward . . . I was "a little busy"
A personal THANK YOU to
Deb, Allen and Tim . . .
For getting me from the Mocha Moose,
 to Lester River
in under 40 minutes . . .
I made it to the party on time!

Get in Line Boy . . .

or (Mis)Adventure  . . . take 3
It's gonna be a great day to ride to Hugo's
Yeah . . . but TOAST . . . they don't have TOAST
Just eat your toast . . . let's go . . .

Yeah . . . OK, maybe only 7 seconds
We managed to cross the road before Steve flats
"I'm glad I never flat . . ."

OK already  . . .  OK
"Hugo," our new mascot
All seven of us made it to Hugo's
and Steve managed to keep air in his tires
Arriving at Patti's
We pick up Declan, who wonders:
"Just What is that thing comin' out of Russ' head?"
Shanie suspects Jim might have one too . . .
"I wish the publisher of this blog would get serious,
and just get back to work"
"I agree . . . Let's ride . . . "
Remember:  Always follow the rules of the road, except when you
aren't supposed to.  It is left to you to figure out where, and when
